Lupita Nyong’o Breaks Silence on Living with Uterine Fibroids

🎥 Lupita Nyong’o Breaks Silence on Living with Uterine Fibroids, and She’s Fighting for Change 💪🏽💜

Oscar-winning Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has revealed she’s been silently battling uterine fibroids — a condition she was diagnosed with back in 2014, the same year she made history at the Academy Awards.

“I had 30 fibroids. I had surgery to remove them,” she said in a candid Instagram post on Tuesday, July 15. 😢💉

When she asked her doctor what could be done to prevent their return, the heartbreaking answer was:
👉🏽 “You can’t. It’s only a matter of time until they grow again.”

💡 What are Uterine Fibroids?

According to Lupita:

“They can range from the size of a pea to as large as a melon. They cause heavy menstrual bleeding, anaemia, pelvic pain, frequent urination, and even pregnancy complications.”

She stressed that many women live with fibroids without knowing, while others suffer in silence with debilitating symptoms.

🧠 Why Lupita Is Speaking Out:

💬 “This Fibroid Awareness Month and beyond, I hope my experience resonates with anyone who has ever felt dismissed, confused, or alone.”

She’s not just sharing — she’s taking action. Lupita has joined US lawmakers to support a Uterine Fibroid Congressional Bill Package that aims to:

  • Expand research funding 🧪
  • Promote early detection 🩺
  • Improve treatment access 🚺
  • Raise public awareness 📢

🎓 BONUS: She’s also launched a Lupita Nyong’o Uterine Fibroid Research Grant to fund non-invasive, life-improving treatments for the millions of women affected globally.
