Babu Owino’s KSh 5 Million Pool Tournament Officially Begins

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has launched the inaugural Nairobi County Pool Championship, a constituency-based billiards tournament with a total prize pool of KSh 5 million aimed at discovering and rewarding talented pool players across the capital.

The lawmaker announced the tournament on his social media platforms on Thursday, July 9, revealing that the first qualifier would be held in Embakasi East on Saturday, July 11, before the competition expands to Nairobi's remaining 16 constituencies.

The championship will follow a qualifier-to-finals format, with winners from each constituency progressing to the Nairobi County Finals.

At the constituency level, every qualifier winner will receive KSh 15,000 and earn the opportunity to represent their constituency in the county finals.

The Nairobi County Finals will feature attractive cash prizes. In the men's category, the champion will take home KSh 150,000, while the runner-up will receive KSh 100,000 and the third-placed player KSh 75,000.

In the women's category, the winner will pocket KSh 60,000, the runner-up KSh 40,000, and the third-place finisher KSh 20,000. The tournament also includes a team event, where the winning team will receive KSh 140,000.

Registration for the Embakasi East qualifier closed at midnight on Thursday, while registration for participants from the other constituencies remains open. Qualifier dates for the remaining constituencies will be announced in the coming weeks.

Announcing the event, Babu Owino said more than 5,000 people had already registered for the tournament.

"The journey to the Nairobi County finals officially begins this Saturday, 11th July 2026, with the launch event at Embakasi East Constituency. So far, over 5,000 people have registered. See you on Saturday as we kick off Nairobi's biggest pool championship at a total cost of KSh 5,000,000," he wrote.

Following the launch on Saturday, the MP said the championship would bring together talented players from all 17 constituencies in Nairobi, offering them a platform to showcase their skills while competing for the lucrative cash prizes.

The announcement generated excitement on social media, with many pool enthusiasts expressing interest in participating and wishing the tournament success.
