Liverpool Star Diogo Jota Dies in Tragic Car Accident Alongside His Brother

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died in a horrific car accident in Spain, just two weeks after celebrating his wedding.

According to reports from Spanish newspaper Marca, the Portugal international was travelling with his younger brother, Andre Silva, when their car veered off the road on the A-52 near Palacios de Sanabria, Zamora province. The vehicle was engulfed in flames, claiming both their lives.

The Zamora Provincial Council confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter):

“Two young people have died in an accident on the A-52 (Palacios de Sanabria).”

Jota, 28, joined Liverpool from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020. He went on to become a crucial part of the team’s success, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists in 182 appearances. During his time at Anfield, he lifted two Premier League titles and played under both Jürgen Klopp and new manager Arne Slot.

Before arriving in England, Jota rose through the ranks of Gondomar and later signed with Atletico Madrid, eventually joining Porto and Wolves before his move to Merseyside.

His brother, Andre Silva, 26, was a player for Portuguese club Penafiel.

Jota’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the football world, with tributes pouring in from teammates, clubs, and fans.
