The Bloody Trail: Inside the Killing of Albert Ojwang

On Friday, June 6, 2025 at approximately 1:30 PM, three plainclothes officers believed to be affiliated with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrived at Albert Ojwang’s home in Kokwanyo Village, Kabondo Kasipul, Homa Bay County.

Albert was with his family ready to have lunch…when the officers arrived on motorcycles without any warrant of arrest and tore him away from his family ,..as his wife and three year old son watched.

He was then taken to Mawego Police Station while sandwiched between two officers.

An initial interrogation happened and at around 3–4 PM, he was transferred into a blue Subaru vehicle with four officers ,. two in front and two seated beside him, for a 400Km journey to Nairobi.

Saturday, June 7 they arrived in Nairobi.

Police records show that Ojwang was booked at the Nairobi Central Police Station at 9:35 PM, according to Occurrence Book (OB) entry No. 137/7/6/2025.

At the time of booking, the desk officer noted that he was “sick” and visibly injured, profusely bleeding from the nose and mouth.

Sunday, June 8 in the early morning hours… routine police cell checks revealed that Ojwang was unconscious.

He was rushed to Mbagathi Hospital at around 1:39 AM, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Monday, June 9,…Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja held a press briefing confirming that Ojwang was arrested in connection with a complaint filed by Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat on defamation.

IG Kanja then reported that Ojwang had injured himself by hitting his head against the cell wall and died,.. in what was believed to be suicide.

Now,I see all of us rushing to crucify the officers at the Central Police Station,…but why is no one demanding the identities of those who started this horror?

Where is the outrage for the three men on motorbikes who stormed into Albert Ojwang’s home and snatched in from his wife and 3-year-old son,.. then took him to Mawego Police Station, locked him in a room, and began the initial interrogation?

Who were the four men who shoved him into a blue Subaru and drove him over 400 kilometers,…for Albert to later arrive in Nairobi bleeding, broken, and nearly dead?

Why have we allowed these nameless, faceless individuals to disappear into the shadows?

Who are they? What are their names? What police unit is protecting them? Why are they still free?

Instead, we’re here, staging a public lynching of the officers at Central Police Station who received a man who was already maimed, already dying,..and even after protesting, they were forced to book him in a solitary cell!!!

How dare we ignore the ones who delivered death to the Central Police Station doorsteps!!

How dare we let this trail of blood that began in Homa Bay,.. only matter where it ended!!

This was a coordinated disappearance,20+long hours of painful torture and a slow deliberate execution….

If we truly care about justice for Albert Ojwang, then our anger must be louder, our questions sharper, and our demands relentless.

DIG and officers at the Central Police Station might go but if we fail to put names and faces to those “mysterious ” individuals who stormed Albert’s home then we would have failed him….his spirit will not rest.

Let’s start at the beginning.

Start from Homa Bay.

That’s where the murder began🥲
