Tragedy Strikes Again: Miners Buried Alive at Kambi Karaya Goldmine in West Pokot

An unknown number of miners have been buried alive after a section of the Kambi Karaya goldmine caved in earlier today. According to local authorities, a rescue operation is currently underway, with emergency teams racing against time to save those still trapped underground.

So far, one fatality has been confirmed while several other miners remain unaccounted for, leaving families and the entire community in agony as they wait for news of their loved ones.

This heartbreaking incident comes barely a week after a similar tragedy at Turkwel in West Pokot, where six miners lost their lives following the collapse of another goldmine.

These recurring accidents have ignited fresh concerns over the rapid surge in illegal and poorly regulated mining activities across the region. Locals and leaders are now calling for urgent government intervention to enforce stricter safety measures and protect the lives of miners whose only source of livelihood often puts them at risk.
