Woman Arrested After Allegedly Hiding Bhang Inside Loaf of Bread Meant for Detained Boyfriend

A visit to a boyfriend in police custody reportedly took an unexpected turn after a 26-year-old woman was arrested when officers allegedly discovered bhang hidden inside a loaf of bread at Buruburu Police Station.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the woman, identified as Bernice Achieng, had visited the station to see her boyfriend, who was being held in custody.

She reportedly asked officers at the report office desk to pass a loaf of bread to the detained man.

However, officers became suspicious after noticing that the bread package was unsealed.

What appeared to be an ordinary loaf of bread allegedly turned out to be concealing something else.

A search of the loaf reportedly led to the discovery of five rolls of bhang and a matchbox hidden deep inside the bread.

The discovery prompted officers to conduct a further search.

According to the DCI, another seven rolls of bhang were allegedly found stuffed inside a pocket of Achieng's jacket.

That brought the total number of rolls recovered from the woman to 12.

Achieng was subsequently taken into custody, with the recovered items secured as exhibits. She is expected to be arraigned in court.

The incident has since drawn attention because of the unusual method allegedly used to conceal the drugs.

What began as a visit to a boyfriend in custody therefore ended with the visitor herself becoming a police suspect.

Separate Thika Arrest After Motorcycle Chase

In a separate incident in Thika, police also arrested a suspected drug peddler following a high-speed motorcycle chase that ended in a crash.

The suspect, identified by the DCI as John Mwangi, alias “Bombay,” was reportedly riding a motorcycle with a female passenger when the pair encountered a police roadblock in the Kairi area of Thika West.

According to the DCI, the two allegedly attempted to evade the officers after spotting the roadblock and accelerated away on the motorcycle.

Their escape attempt reportedly came to an abrupt end near Ree Supermarket, where the rider allegedly lost control of the motorcycle after misjudging a speed bump.

The motorcycle crashed, giving the female passenger an opportunity to flee into the crowd.

Mwangi, however, was arrested at the scene.

Police reportedly searched the motorcycle and allegedly recovered 300 rolls of bhang.

Officers also reportedly found another three kilograms of bhang, which had allegedly been wrapped in yellow polythene and strapped to the motorcycle seat.

Mwangi was taken into custody at Kimuchu Police Station, where he was reportedly undergoing processing pending arraignment.

The female passenger remained at large according to the DCI's account.

The two incidents highlight ongoing police operations targeting suspected drug trafficking and possession in different parts of Nairobi and Kiambu.

However, the suspects are yet to face court, and the allegations against them will be subject to the legal process.
