Suspect Arrested in The Murder Investigation of Gospel Artist Rachel Wandeto

Fresh details have now emerged in the heartbreaking murder case of gospel artist Rachel Wandeto after detectives arrested a key suspect believed to have played a major role in the brutal attack that shocked the country.

The suspect, identified as Josiah Njeru Njiri, was arrested in Kasarani by detectives attached to the DCI homicide unit following days of investigations and intelligence gathering. According to police sources, the suspect was not a stranger to the late singer. Detectives say he was known to Wandeto and had reportedly worked as her regular taxi driver before the tragic incident.

Authorities are expected to present him in court as detectives seek custodial orders to allow more time to complete investigations into the disturbing case that has sparked outrage across Kenya.

Rachel Wandeto’s death left many Kenyans shocked and heartbroken after reports emerged about the horrifying attack she suffered in Mwiki, Kasarani. According to investigators, the gospel singer was attacked on May 16 near 11th Street along Obama Road. Police believe she was assaulted before being doused with a flammable substance and set on fire by attackers who later escaped.

The incident left Wandeto with severe burn injuries covering nearly 75 percent of her body. She was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where doctors fought to save her life for several days. Sadly, despite medical efforts, the singer succumbed to her injuries on May 18 while receiving treatment.

Her painful death quickly sparked massive reactions online, with many Kenyans demanding swift justice and calling on authorities to ensure everyone involved in the attack is held accountable.

Sources close to the investigation claim detectives are also looking into allegations that some individuals close to the victim believed she had recently received money from places she had visited, including State House. DCI Director Mohamed Amin confirmed the arrest and stated that detectives are still pursuing additional suspects believed to have participated in the attack.
