The death of 23-year-old Jeff Mwathi has captivated Kenya's attention, raising questions and suspicions about the circumstances surrounding his demise. On February 22, 2023, Jeff fell from the 12th floor of Redwood Apartments in Roysambu, Nairobi, while in the company of popular Kikuyu vernacular musician DJ Fatxo. The incident has since sparked an inquest to determine whether foul play was involved.

🧴 The 4 AM Visit: A Key Testimony

On August 18, 2025, during the ongoing inquest, a significant testimony was presented by Felister Waithera Wairimu, a beautician and regular supplier of hair products to DJ Fatxo. She revealed that on the night of Jeff's death, DJ Fatxo visited her house at 4 AM to collect hair products he had ordered a week earlier.

Felister testified that DJ Fatxo had placed an order for curling cream and foam cream worth Ksh 3,500 ten days prior. Despite the delay, he called her at 4 AM on February 22, 2023, to pick up the items. She expressed surprise at the timing but acknowledged that late-night deliveries were not uncommon in her line of work.

Felister further stated that DJ Fatxo was in a hurry and did not exit his vehicle during the pickup. He promised to pay for the products later that day, which he did around 8:30 AM.

🏢 The Night at Redwood Apartments

Earlier testimonies have painted a picture of the events leading up to Jeff's death. On the evening of February 21, 2023, Jeff accompanied DJ Fatxo and two other women to a night out. DJ Fatxo later offered to drop them off but instead diverted to his apartment at Redwood Apartments.

Inside, the group reportedly engaged in music and drinks. At some point, Jeff became agitated, leading to a commotion that prompted a neighbor to intervene. Witnesses recall Jeff expressing suicidal thoughts, which were loud enough to be heard outside the apartment.

The following morning, Jeff's body was found outside the building, leading to immediate investigations.

An autopsy conducted by Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor revealed that Jeff died from blunt force trauma. The circumstances of his fall remain under scrutiny, with experts examining whether it was accidental, suicidal, or a result of foul play.
