“My Life Is in Danger” ~ Ndiangui Kinyagia Pleads With Court, Makes 2 Key Requests
Blogger and IT expert Ndiangui Kinyagia has told the court that his life is in danger, urging the judiciary to continue protecting him from arrest.
Speaking on Thursday, July 24, after appearing before a judge at the Milimani Law Courts, Kinyagia made two formal requests:
- An adjournment of his ongoing case.
- An extension of the existing court orders barring police from arresting him.
“Your Honour, I would like to request the court for two things. Number one, to seek an adjournment of this case. Number two, to request that Your Honour protect me from arrest by the police,” Kinyagia pleaded.
The blogger clarified that he needed time to review an affidavit with his legal team, led by seasoned lawyers Kibe Mungai and Wahome Thuku.
Court Protection Against Police Arrest
The plea comes just weeks after Justice Mwita issued interim protection for Kinyagia on July 3, ruling that police could not arrest or detain him. The court instead directed that any statement by investigators should be recorded only in the presence of his lawyers.
Kinyagia insists that his fears of arrest are genuine and that his life may be at risk if police are allowed to detain him.
Background: Linked to June 25 Protests
Authorities have linked Kinyagia to the June 25 protests, alleging that he may have been behind a widely circulated protest timetable. For several days after the protests, his whereabouts were unknown, sparking fears that he had been detained by security agencies—a claim the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) denied.
On July 3, he resurfaced alongside his legal team and revealed he had been in hiding, citing safety concerns.
