A heart-wrenching moment recently went viral of a single father — a boda boda rider — breaking down in tears after his wife abandoned him, leaving him as the sole caretaker of their young child. With no money for childcare, he has no choice but to carry his baby with him on his motorbike every day, exposing the child to the sun, rain, and the dangers of the road.

This story, highlighted by Kenyan musician and philanthropist Akothee, comes with a piece of practical advice for this father and others like him:

"Bro, just look for a good neighbourhood with several single mothers. Talk to one of them and ask if she can help you raise the baby. Leave your child with her and her kids during the day, but make sure you come back in the evening to pick your child. Prepare him well every morning with enough clothes and leave some money for the mother who's babysitting. It’s rough everywhere — don’t expose the baby to this kind of hardship. You’ll end up in hospital nursing him alone, and no one will be there for you. Ask single mothers what this journey looks like — it’s TOUGH. Pole."
